Volvo Germany accidentally leaks upcoming XC40
We have seen prototype versions of the XC40 several times now and it looks to be a promising compact crossover. In fact, our spies were able to get to see a closer look of the XC40 inside and out last May 2017. While still draped in heavy camouflage, we do get to see the angular lines and sleek profile of Volvo's all-new baby crossover.
Now, we get to see a glimpse of Volvo's latest model after the automaker accidentally released a teaser image of the said crossover. Posted by Volvo Germany via Instagram (which has since been taken down), the image shows the partially revealed rear section of the XC40. There's only so much to detail to see but it looks like the crossover bears a close resemblance to the 40 Series Concepts showed last May 2016.
Side-by-side, both the production and concept versions of the XC40 get the distinct pillar-mounted taillights, integrated rear spoiler, muscular rear bumper and stylish alloy wheels. Also present is what appears to be a floating roof design and trapezoidal exhaust pipes. There is no image of the front but we do expect it to remain faithful to the original concept's design.
It is set to be underpinned by Volvo's new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA). The new platform may also be likely used on the next-gen S40 sedan and V40 hatchback. Expect a range of downsized turbocharged engines and plug-in hybrid powertrains to be available for Volvo's latest crossover. A pure electric version may also arrive soon.
The all-new Volvo XC40 will reportedly be making its world debut by the end of the year.
