Can you still make a U-turn along EDSA? At the rate things are going, you're either forced to take the former bus routes or do it under the flyovers. If you miss any of those, you'll either end up in the Monumento Circle or the Globe Rotonda by Mall of Asia.
Since late last year, the MMDA has been sealing off U-Turn slots along the busy thoroughfare. This is in line with the Department of Transportation (DOTr)’s EDSA Busway project. Next week, they will be closing off another one, and it's in the General Malvar/Bagong Barrio area.
For those unfamiliar with the area, this U-turn slot is near General Malvar street and right across the SSS (Social Security System) Caloocan branch. If you're headed southbound, it is adjacent to the RCBC EDSA Caloocan branch.
So, what's the alternate route now? You have two options.
If you're along the northbound lanes but need to head south, you must take the Balintawak Cloverleaf to get to the other side. If you miss that, the only way back is through the Monument Circle. Southbound motorists will also have to take the Balintawak Cloverleaf to head north.
The MMDA reopened two U-turn slots over the holidays to ease the congestion along EDSA. These are the ones near Quezon City Academy and Dario Bridge (near Waltermart Munoz). However, expect the MMDA to shut these off eventually because of the EDSA Busway project.
