Talking about supercars, one can never forget about the Gumpert Apollo. The Gumpert was a very capable supercar which managed to hold the Nurburgring lap record for almost five years. However, the company went through some troubling times and ended up filing for bankruptcy. Now, reborn as Apollo Automobili, the company has revealed their successor to the Gumpert called the Intenza Emozione.
English for Intense Emotion, the Intenza Emozione – IE for short – is Apollo's call to the hypercar market. Like vehicles in this segment, it uses a plethora of carbon fiber to keep the weight down, only tipping the scales at 1,250 kg. A carbon monocoque chassis is used to maintain rigidity and save weight, while the front and rear subframes are also made out of the light weight composite. Combined the subframe and tub only weigh 105kg.
Apart from its extensive use of carbon fiber, one cannot talk about the IE without mentioning its extreme styling, which is actually functional, and inspired by the Apollo Arrow. It features advanced aerodynamic, courtesy of the large front splitter and rear diffuser, a massive rear wing and a vertical fin combined with the scuplture and channels along the body. Adding all of them aerodynamic parts together, the IE can produce up to 1,350kg of downforce at 300km/h.
Step inside, and there are barely any creature comforts. The seats are mere cushions which have been stuck directly onto the carbon fiber tub with the pedals and steering wheel being adjustable. The digital cluster sits in the center while a main infotainment screen is fitted on the center console. The air conditoning panel together with the start button, which is a lever, is placed on the ceiling.
Powering the IE is a naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V12 producing 780 PS and 759 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to the rear wheel via a 6-speed Hewland pneumatic racing gearbox. Apollo claims a 0-100km/h time of just 2.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 333 km/h.
While the power figures on the car may be subtle compared to other hypercars, Apollo says the vehicle was intended to offer pure driving pleasure, hence the name. This also explains why the IE does away with any turbos or form of electrification.
As expected with vehicles of this caliber, only the IE is limited to only 10 examples and all will be built in Italy. Got extra money to spend but don't want a more popular manufacturer? Best act fast as not all IE's have been accounted for.
