It seems that Apple is making serious moves to making its own reported autonomous car as they recently hired former Fiat Chrysler global quality control head Doug Betts for an unspecified position.
Betts' recent LinkedIn profile update revealed this, as he says he joined Apple in July 2015 and his job title reads "Operations – Apple Inc." in the San Francisco Bay area.
Before joining Fiat Chrysler in 2007, Betts served as production manager at Michelin, general manager for product quality and supply chain at Toyota and later as a senior vice president for quality control at Nissan. Given his background, it is likely certain that he will be tasked to head quality control for Apple's EV program.
Bett's hiring follows Ford engineer Steve Zadesky as vice president for product design earlier this year, former Mercedes-Benz exec Johann Jungwirth, as well as Ford 021C designer Marc Newson. This also follows reported poaching of employees from EV maker Tesla.
Apple has been reportedly working on an electric vehicle of their own which is internally codenamed "Titan".
