In the wake of the Volkswagen ‘Dieselgate’ scandal, Audi AG recently confirmed that they also have vehicles that make use of the so-called ‘defeat device’ that allows the engines to cheat emission ratings like Euro-VI
Numbering at 2.1 million cars worldwide, the Ingolstadt-based automaker further elaborated that models that are running on Euro5 Standard engines are affected. So far Audi has stated that 1.42 million models are affected in Western Europe, with 577,000 vehicles in Germany. The US on the other hand has about 13,000 TDI cars that carry the device.
Models that carry the emission defeating device include the TDI versions of the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3 and Q5.
Just last week, parent company Volkswagen admitted that they have 11 million vehicles worldwide that are equipped with the illegal device that rigs emission tests. This confirms Volkswagen’s statement that subsidiary brands under the company are also affected by the ‘defeat device’.
Other companies such as SEAT, Skoda, and Porsche have yet to make an announcement about the matter however.
