Audi enters the world's largest market segment with the introduction of the A3 and S3 compact sedan. The third model in the A3 line boasts of the brand's ultra-lightweight materials and powerful yet efficient drivetrains coupled with the convenience of modern infotainment and driver assistance systems.
The Audi A3 Sedan equipped with the 1.4 TFSI engine has a wheelbase of 4,460 mm and weighs in at 1,250 kg and continues to feature the brand's 'tornado line' and flared wheel arches. The fascia's design remains identical to the hatchback version and has an option to fit this new model with all-LED headlamps.
Three engine options will initially be offered for the A3 Sedan, one TDI and two TFSI units. They respectively exhibit 1.4, 1.8 and 2.0 liters of displacement, and feature power outputs between 142 PS and 183 PS. A particular highlight for the 1.4 TFSI is the cylinder on demand (COD) system which temporarily shuts off two cylinders during low load operation to improve fuel economy. Transmission options are available in either manual or S-tronic.
Its interior features a refined design with the instrument panel slightly leaning towards the driver. Its top-of-the-line infotainment option includes a 7-inch LCD screen that comes with a Bang & Olufsen sound system and an MMI navigation plus system. Luggage compartment space is at 425-liters and can be extended further by folding the rear seats down.
A broad assortment of assistance systems are also available and ranges from adaptive cruise control to Audi side assist, Audi active lane assist, camera-based traffic sign recognition and the park-assist system with surround-view camera to the safety system Audi pre sense. The driver information system with rest recommendation is standard in the sporty and luxurious Ambition and Ambiente equipment lines; it is optional for the entry-level Attraction line.
Additional engines options such as a Euro 6 compliant 2.0 TDI and a 1.6 TDI as well as a quattro permanent all-wheel drive can be expected in the future.
