Audi has recently announced that their performance division, Audi Sport, is set to launch five new models by 2020. Together with the upcomming new high performance RS models, the Audi Sport boss Stephan Winkelmann also announced the appointment of a new technical development boss. Oliver Hoffman has now been appointed as new Head of Technical development. He succeeds long-time boss, Stephan Reil, who now takes on a new undisclosed role at Audi.
Currently, Audi Sport already has a total of 11 RS models, and is set to increase to 16 by 2020. Hoffman will be in charge of the development of new models set to be introduced, which is no easy task given that 2020 is only 4 years away.
Prior to taking up his present position, Hoffman previously worked with Winkelmann at Lamborghini. While at Lamborghini, Hoffman worked in the areas of quality managed and also helped with the development of the V10 engine powering the Huracan and the R8.
Despite the annoucement of new RS models, Audi did not reveal any details as to what they have in store for the RS line. Though given the direction Audi seems to be going, it is possible that the German automaker will be giving their SUVs and crossovers the RS treatment, much like that of the RS Q3. Audi Sport could also launch an RS 1 and possibly adding a more hardcore variant of the R8, which has already been seen by our spies undergoing tests.
With nothing certain on the upcoming RS models, we will have to wait and see what Hoffman and the automaker with four rings has in store.
