Audi Q5 L makes official debut at 2018 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition

Don't try to adjust your screens. What you're seeing right now is the long wheelbase version of the all-new Audi Q5. Aptly named the Q5 L, this is the brand's first take on building a more spacious version of the midsize SUV for the Chinese market. It joins other existing long wheelbase models in Audi's lineup (A4 L, A6 L and A8 L) and comes with a more 'opulent space' for the rear passengers.

Despite having an eerily familiar profile as a standard Q5, it's quite clear that the long wheelbase model is longer than your run-of-the-mill offering. Longer by 88mm, the Q5 L measures 4770mm long and has a 2907mm wheelbase. This translates to more legroom for the rear occupants. In fact, Audi claimed that the Q5 L has 110mm more legroom than standard.

However, luggage capacity on the Q5 L remains unchanged from the standard wheelbase version. With the rear seats up, it can carry 610 liters of cargo. Fold those down however, and the Q5 L is capable of carrying of 1550 liters worth of luggage.

In terms of design, the Q5 L gets the same exterior look as the normal Q5. The front fascia gets the now familiar Singleframe hexagonal front grill that is flanked by LED matrix headlights. It also has a low slung greenhouse, LED taillights, a wide selection of alloy wheels (18 – 20 inches) and a distinct character line that runs the entire length of the SUV.

Available features and amenities that can be specified in the Q5 L include three-zone automatic climate control, 8.3-inch touchscreen infotainment with MMI navigation, smartphone interface system, 12.3-inch virtual cockpit, voice control and gesture control.

Powering the Q5 L is the familiar 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine that is connected to a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission. Depending on the model chosen, the engine can either produce 190 PS or 252 PS. The former allows the Q5 L to run from 0 – 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds while the latter can pull the SUV from 0 – 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.

Like the standard Q5, the Q5 L will be produced at the FAW-VW Changchun plant in Northern China. Sales of the Q5 L will begin later this year.
