If you're in California next month, you may want to drop by Monterey for the Pebble Beach Car Week. The annual spectacle is a tradition amongst car enthusiasts, with vintage, classic, and performance cars on show.
Audi, however, is going to the event with something very futuristic: the world premiere of the Audi PB18 e-tron concept.
So named after Pebble Beach and the year of its debut, the PB18 e-tron marks a new chapter for Audi's electrified e-tron line. Being an electric super sports car, the PB18 will benefit from technology learned and developed in Audi's motorsport efforts and successes in races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Audi will display the car at the Laguna Seca Raceway and at other events within the Car Week, including the Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance. The company will also showcase a variety of their classic and vintage models at the event.
Audi clarified that the PB18 e-tron is still a show car, meaning it's a design study; it is unclear whether the actual show car already features a functional electric powertrain. Audi did say that the PB18 was designed at their new Malibu Design Loft in California, and that it is a “design study for a puristic sports car of the future”, one that features a “powerful electric drive”.
