After teasing the public with a silhouette of the car over 2 weeks ago, Lamborghini finally revealed the “mysterious car” on the 1st day of the 2014 Paris Motor Show: the Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 

The Asterion LPI 910-4 is the company's first take on creating a plug-in hybrid concept. Entitled as a 'technology demonstrator', the concept car is Lamborghini's vision of a car that can be produced realistically today that utilizes available technology that reduces CO2 emissions, provides electric range while still retaining the brand's signature performance.

The exterior look of the Asterion now carries Lamborghini's new design language, which emphasizes 'light and shadow', as Lamboghini puts it.

The front section of the car is designed as a single component and gets distinct headlights that are made from carbon and titanium. The front air intakes use an active air cooling system that makes use of a double layered grid, a first for Lamborghini. A metal and titanium grid are fixed onto each other that create a hexagonal and Y leitmotiv look that stands out from the bodywork. A set of unique wheels with carbon composites adorn the wheel-wells and come in 20-inches at the front and 21-inches at the rear. They are wrapped in Pirelli brand tires and are accentuated by mudguards that gives the car a 'muscular road presence'. The rear features a thin taillight strip, quad exhaust pipes and a hexagonal-themed see-through engine cover that turn according to engine drive mode; pure electric, hybrid power or pure thermal engine power.

Inside, the dashboard bears a minimalistic and modern look that reflects on the exterior appearance of the car. The seats are raised higher than traditional models which allows the car to be driven as an everyday cruiser instead of performance-oriented according to Lamborghini. Bianco Celaeno (ivory) and Marrione Atis (brown) leather blankets the interior and is spruced up by aluminum and forged carbon fiber trim. Titanium inserts decorate the 3-spoke steering wheel and has 3 buttons that controls the engine driving modes: Zero – full electric, I - Ibrido (hybrid) and T – Termico (Thermal). Topping it all of is a portable tablet that controls and displays climate control, GPS and other infotainment systems.

The power plant of the Asterion LPI 910-4 is a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 that is accompanied by 2 electric motors which run at the front axle and provides a torque vectoring function. There is an integrated starter motor and generator (ISG) that is placed between the engine and the 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.

Alone, the engine produces 610 PS with 560 Nm of torque but with the help of the electric motors that generate 300 PS, the car cranks out a total system output of 910 PS. It can go from 0 – 100 km/h in just 3 seconds and has a top speed of 320 km/h. Additionally, the car can be driven with pure electricity for 50 km. and will reach a top speed of 125 km/h. The two front wheels provide power during Zero mode.

As the brand is synonymous for naming their cars after famous bulls, Lamborghini chose to name the concept after a minotaur, part man, part bull. The 'bull' represents the instinctive power of the V10 engine while the 'man' signifies the rationality of the hybrid technology present in the car.
