Forty-one competitors stepped up to the challenge at the opening day of the 2011 Manila Auto Salon at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City for Round 1 of the AutoIndustriya.com GT5 (Gran Turismo 5) Challenge. The GT5 challenge will have two Sony Playstation 3 driving rigs, and participants can join at any time for the duration of the 2011 Manila Auto Salon. The contest will follow a time attack format during the four days, with the top times being recorded and awarded prizes accordingly
Round 1 featured the Chevrolet Camaro SS driven on Rome Circuit. Participants all drove on the same specified settings and conditions. Setting a fast time early in competition was Rio Halili who seemed almost a sure winner with a 1:22.400 laptime until his time was shattered by Daryl Brady with a 1:18 laptime. Vern Tintoc later set a 1:22:090 laptime to further demote Halili down the order and he was finally taken out of the top-thee after Aurick Go logged in a 1:18.293 laptime. The final decision was between literally hundredths of a seconds separating the top-2 challengers. Daryl Brady managed to best Aurick Go's time with 1:18.255.
