Beijing 2014: Bentley debuts their Hybrid Concept

Becomes the first ultra-luxury auto brand to delve into plug-in hybrids.

Bentley has chosen the 2014 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition as the venue for the global debut of their Hybrid Concept; officially making Bentley the first high-end luxury car maker to show integrate plug-in hybrids into their models.

Also making their Chinese debuts is the new Flying Spur V8, the new Continental GT Speed and GT V8 S.

The Bentley Hybrid Concept is based on the Mulsanne and proves without a doubt that hybrid technology doesn’t lessen the lavish experience Bentley provides but it actually ‘can enhance even the pinnacle of luxury and performance.’

Copper is used to stylishly highlight the electrical wiring from the accents to the radiator grille and headlamps outside while inside it is cross stitched on the leather in the cabin.

The Hybrid Concept uses a plug-in system that increases power by up to 25% while reducing emissions by 70% and provides a 50 km range on electric power alone.  This concept is Bentley’s preparation for the launch of a plug-in hybrid SUV in 2017 and in line with their target of making 90% of Bentley’s models come with a plug-in hybrid trim by 2020.

“Adding performance and efficiency with no compromise to luxury –Plug-in hybrids are an important part of Bentley’s exciting future and we are proud to be pioneering these developments in the ultra luxury sector,” said Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors.

Making its Chinese debut is the Flying Spur V8, which offers 507PS and reaches 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds along with the high-performance Continental GT V8 S and the fastest production Bentley ever with 635 PS and 820 Nm of torque reaching 331 km/h, the Continental GT Speed.
