Citroen revealed a small sport-utility vehicle (SUV) concept developed alongside Chinese carmaker Dongfeng at the 2014 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.

The French automaker said in a press release that the C-XR Concept is set to capitalize on the small crossover market in China, which it said is the fastest-growing automotive sector in the country.

The vehicle is 4,260 mm long with a 2,650 mm wheelbase and raised ride height. It sports a white paintjob, with red and black stripes at the bottom of the doors and red side mirror caps.

At the front, the car has a wide, three-bar chrome grille linking the rectangular head lights. The lower bumper is flanked by light-emitting diode (LED) daytime running lights, with additional fog lights in the bumper skirt for a more rugged look.

Going down the side, the C-XR Concept continues the rugged theme with black plastic cladding along the bottom of the door and the wheel wells (housing17-inch wheels), aluminum-effect roof bars and a long line running from the front door to the bottom of the tail lights.

The rear end has more plastic cladding, along with an aluminum-effect lower bumper with two exhaust pipes. A ridge also runs along the bottom of the tailgate.

Although the company has not yet revealed details of the interior, it did say the C-XR Concept has a large, glass panoramic sunroof.

The concept SUV is powered by Citroen’s 1.6-liter, turbocharged, direct-injection, four-cylinder THP 160 engine with a Stop&Start system, mated to an automatic transmission.

To reduce fuel consumption and carbon-dioxide emissions, the C-XR Concept is equipped with Grip Control, which manages the grip of the wheels in line with the nature of the road surface, instead of a conventional four-wheel-drive system.
