Bentley will build 10 special edition Bentaygas to celebrate record run

It seems that a number of records were rewritten at the recently concluded Pikes Peak International Hillclimb. Apart from Volkswagen setting a new course record with the I.D. R, Bentley also managed to claim the production SUV record.

The previous record holder, a Range Rover Sport driven by Paul Dallenbach, managed to set a time of 12:35.6 back in 2014. The nearly stock Bentayga however managed to set a 10:49.9 time up the 20-km long mountain road with two-time champion Rhys Millen behind the wheel; beating the previous record by almost 2-minutes. Going up almost 1,500 meters and taking on 156 corners, Bentley says the Bentayga averaged 107 km/h.

As mentioned previously, the Bentley's Pikes Peak challenger only had minor modifications. To be exact, the rear seats were ditched and the front seats replaced by lightweight racing seats. In order for it to be eligible in participating at the hill climb, a roll cage was also fitted together with a fire suppression system. Aside from that, only an Akrapovic exhaust and specific Pirelli tires were fitted.

To celebrate the record breaking run, Bentley will also be releasing a limited edition Bentayga. Called the Pikes Peak Bentayga, it will be hand crafted by Mulliner – Bentley’s in-house bespoke and coachbuilding division – as a homage to their hill climb challenger. The limited-run Bentayga will be offered in either Deep Beluga Black or Striking Radium to mimick the vehicle. It comes fitted with 22-inch and all exterior chrome replaced with gloss black. A Pikes Peak logo sitting on the front fender round up the exterior make over.

Inside, the same treatment has been applied. No roll cage or racing seats can be found here. Instead Mullier has decided to give it Beluga leather and Alcantara inserts. A Pikes Peak logo decorates the carbon fiber fascias.

Like the Pikes Peak challenger, no modification was made under the hood of the limited edition Bentayga. It uses the standard 6.0-liter twin turbo W12 which still produces 600 PS and 900 Nm of torque, mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

Only 10 units of the Pikes Peak Bentayga will be made and sold globally.
