The Mazda6 has been the brand's flagship sedan since 2002, taking over the reins from the long selling Mazda 626, aimed more at younger buyers with its sporty styling and dynamic driving capabilities.
There have been two previous generations of the Mazda6, with the 1st gen model being in showrooms from 2002-2008, and the 2nd generation model from 2008-2013.
All Mazda6 models sold in the Philippines, including this 3rd generation, are assembled at Mazda's plants in Japan.
Exterior design and dimensions
The Mazda6's new look follows the design set forward by the CX-5, and has had positive feedback from critics, becoming a finalist for the 2013 World Design of the Year Award.
The design takes inspiration from what Mazda calls Kodo, or the 'soul of motion' design theme. Designers have given the 6 a dynamic look, a low slung profile and high tech, sporty details in keeping with Mazda's DNA.
The Mazda6 sedan (known as the Atenza in Japan) has grown all around, measuring 4850mm long (nearly 100mm longer), 1840mm wide and 1450mm tall. Wheelbase
Interior design and features
The Mazda6 features a premium interior to compete with models like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, whilst retaining the sporty, driver-oriented DNA that Mazda has been known for, otherwise called as Jinba-ittai meaning rider and vehicle (or horse, in the traditional Japanese sense) as one. Mazda paid attention to designing the interior with a high degree of driver-centric ergonomics.
As standard, the Mazda6 brought in by Berjaya comes with i-ELOOP (brake regeneration), i-STOP (intelligent and instantaneous start/stop system for better economy), 19” wheels, Bluetooth and a TFT touchscreen.
Powertrain and suspension
The Mazda6 gets a new SKYACTIV-G engine: a 2.5 liter inline-4 engine that makes 185 PS, 250 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic. The powertrain combo boasts of new technologies in the class such as an intelligent brake enery regeneration system called i-ELOOP as well as i-STOP, a system that automatically starts and stops the engine at a set of traffic lights to save fuel.
In keeping with their sporty driving character, Mazda says the car has been tuned to deliver comfort as well as high speed stability and agile handling.
Safety and security
Apart from the standard safety features normally found in the class, the Mazda6 comes with 6 airbags (dual front, dual side and curtain airbags) as well as a back up camera and bi-xenon active headlamps (lights sweep left and right when cornering).
Variants and pricing
The all new Mazda6 is available at dealers, and has retained its previous pricing of Php 1,705,000.
