While the BMW 8 Series hasn't even been revealed in production guise, the German automaker is already keen on expanding the model line. The revived 8 Series model line effectively replaces the 6 Series and, with that, BMW will be giving the large grand touring coupe a Gran Coupe version. In BMW speak, that means a four-door hardtop model.

For now however, we'll have to make do with a teaser from BMW as to what the four-door 8 Series will look like. One thing is for sure though, the concept version will make its debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, which is coming in a few weeks. The preview presents an outline sketch of the upcoming concept but do expect it to look close to reality one the concept hits the show floor.

Visually speaking, it appears longer than the 8 Series Coupe and it comes with a pair of unique rear windows. The signature 'Hoffmeister Kink' is less pronounced on the four-door, at least in these initial sketches. Also seen is the upswept headlight design which was also featured in the coupe. With a general idea of what the 8 Series Coupe concept looks like, it is likely that the Gran Coupe will adapt a lot of its styling elements.

With BMW's official announcement, it is possible that the world might just see the production model by mid-2019 or 2020, with the 8 Series Coupe making its debut sometime this year. Once it reaches its production guise, the 8 Series Gran Coupe is set to go up against the likes of the Audi A7 and Mercedes-Benz CLS.
