BMW M GmbH has just announced that they had finished the production run of the current generation (E92) BMW M3 coupe.
The last M3 coupe rolled off the assembly line in Regensburg, Germany, while the convertible version will have its production run go on until September 2013.
The 4.0L V8-powered M3 Coupe came into the market in 2007 (2008 in some markets), following the arrival of the E90 3 Series saloon/sedan and E92 3 Series coupe. It spawned two derivatives in the form of the M3 sedan/saloon and the M3 convertible.
The BMW E92 M3 coupe has had over 40,000 units made, with another 10,000 units of the M3 sedan and just under 16,000 units of the M3 convertible, for a total of about 66,000 units worldwide.
With the reveal of the 4 Series, it is expected that the E92 M3 will be the last as a coupe, with the next generation M3 taking on the current generation F30 3 Series saloon body. A coupe is reportedly, to succeed E92 M3.
The name? Rumors are abound that it'll be called the M4.
All we can do is wait and see.
