After BMW gave us a glimpse of the replacement for the 3 Series Coupe and Convertible with the release of the Concept 4 Series Coupe, it seems they have another number in the works: the 2 Series.
The 2 Series is expected to replace the 1 Series Coupe and Convertible, much like the Concept 4 Series Coupe.
The upcoming 2 Series starts a realignment within BMW regarding the numbering of their 'Series' models. Odd numbered models will be allocated for sedans and hatchbacks like the 1, 3, 5 and 7, while the coupes and convertibles will be even numbered such as the 2, 4 and 6 series. Back in the 90's, BMW had the 8 Series, though now the 8's slot was taken over by the 6.
Also, with the realignment, M Division is expected to perform work on the new models. On that note, will the legendary M3 name be replaced by the M4? Time will tell.
