After launching the 2016 BMW X1 with TwinPower 2.0-liter gasoline- and diesel-powered engines, BMW has revealed 2 new engines along with a new xDrive variant for the compact crossover. The new powerplants all benefit from TwinPower Turbo technology and consist of two inline-threes.
First up is the 1.5-liter inline-three that powers the sDrive18i model. The gasoline engine puts out 136 PS and 220 Nm of torque and can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox. It can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds and has an average fuel consumption that ranges from 19.6 to 17.9 km/l.
The last engine is the diesel-driven 1.5-liter inline three available for the sDrive16d. It delivers 116 PS and 270 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. 0 – 100 km/h comes in at 11.1 seconds while average diesel consumption is rated at 25.6 km/l.
Aside from the new engines, BMW also announced a new AWD model for the X1 called the xDrive18d which will be powered by an inline-four TwinPower turbo diesel engine that puts out 150 PS. Available transmissions for the xDrive18d include a 6-speed manual gearbox and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds with the manual unit while the 8-speed gearbox can achieve it in 9.3 seconds. Average diesel consumption for the xDrive18d ranges between 21.2 and 20.4 km/l.
The 2016 BMW X1 will go on sale in Germany by October. There is currently no word yet on when will the new X1 will arrive in the Philippines.
