The all-new BMW M5 was launched in the market earlier this year packing 600 horses under the hood. If that's not powerful enough, the folks from the M division have rolled out an even more powerful version in the form of the M5 Competition, now with over 600 PS.
Just how much more power? The M5 Competition adds another 25 PS on top of the standard model. The result is 625 PS from its uprated 4.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 motor. That said, torque is still retained at 750 Nm. It benefits from software updates and a trick exhaust system as well. The exhaust is model-specific and is finished with tailpipe embellishers in black chrome.
It gets tweaks under the chassis too. The car sits lower by seven millimeters, and has uprated springs and dampers to go along with it. Its front axle has also been re-engineered as it gains thicker anti-roll bars. Even the engine mounts are specific to the M5 Competition. Lastly, it rides on 20-inch forged wheels shod with mixed-size tires measuring 275/35 R 20 at the front and 285/35 R 20 at the rear. The wheels themselves are exclusive M light-alloy wheels sporting a Y-spoke design in a bi-color finish.
This generation of M5 ushers in all-wheel drive for the first time in the super sedan. It can be set to full all-wheel drive, rear-biased all-wheel drive, or full rear wheel drive. In pure rear-wheel drive, BMW says it also disables the cars stability control systems, emulating the tail-out thrills of the past M5s.
Wheels aside, this special M5 has exterior details which separate it from the non-Competition variant. It gets gloss black trimmings on the grill, side mirrors and fender gills. The rear diffuser is also more aggressive and it too is finished in gloss black. Present is a Gurney flap on the edge of the trunk lid and lastly, a Competition badge marks it as the most potent M5 to roll out of the factory.
