BMW enters PH EV market

We knew BMW Philippines had plans to bring electric models to the country. But to be honest, their latest move surprised in a good way.

SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation, the official importer and distributor of BMW in the Philippines, is now rolling the dice by launching the 2022 BMW iX. This is their first-ever EV in the country, joining the likes of the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT in the list of premium EV offerings in the PH market.

The BMW iX is an X5-sized crossover with unique styling, tech, and electric motors. Similar to the all-new 4 Series, the iX has a massive kidney grille, slim LED headlights, and taillights, as well as large stylish wheels.

Step inside and the iX greets you with a minimalist but luxurious interior. BMW fully utilized the flat floor advantage that electric cars have to maximize interior space. They adopted a lounge-style arrangement with the seats, which can be electronically adjusted and comes with memory function. In addition, the ambient lighting completes the premium ambiance inside.

There's a 12.3" information display for the driver, and a 14.9" touchscreen control display for its in-car entertainment features. In addition, smartphone integration is via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with standard storage for wireless charging. The aural experience is courtesy of a Harman Kardon surround-sound system.

As for its all-electric powertrain, the iX has BMW's fifth-generation eDrive technology that puts out 326 PS and 630 Nm of torque. Because it's an xDrive40 model, the local iX is all-wheel drive. BMW says the iX could travel up to 372 km on a single charge.

When it comes to safety features, the iX comes equipped with a total of six airbags. In addition, there's dynamic stability and traction control (DSC and DTC), cornering brake control (CBC) and hill descent control (HDC).

BMW Philippines is now accepting pre-orders for the iX xDrive40, which comes with a PHP 6,290,000 price tag. Every purchase of the iX also comes with a wall box charger that will be installed in the customer's home and portable charger, together with a 5-year BMW factory warranty, 8-year high-voltage battery warranty, and 6-year BMW service inclusive warranty.
