At BMW AG's Annual Accounts Press Conference, Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management, confirmed that the BMW X4 will be launched next year.
During Dr. Reithofer's statement, he outlined the progress and future plans of the BMW Group, including upcoming models such as the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo, the increasing orders for the BMW i3, the launch of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe, the MINI Paceman as well as the most powerful Rolls-Royce ever: the Wraith. He also stated the Group's goals and strategies, including the plan to sell 2 million cars by 2016... BMW's centenary.
The most interesting note, however, had to be the Chairman's comment on the X4:
“We created the premium Sports Activity Vehicle segment. Until then there were no all wheel drive cars on the roads that were so sporty. From the late 1990s to date, we have sold over 2.7 million BMW X models. Next year we will expand our offering in this segment with the BMW X4.”
Spy photographers have snapped up prototypes of the BMW, and it seems it will be in direct competition with models like the Range Rover Evoque, and will reportedly be more crossover than the X5 and X6. We'll have to wait and see next year how the X4 would play out in the market.
