2017 BMW 530e serves as the first model under i Performance
BMW recently released a video wherein the manufacturer revealed every detail about the all-new 2017 530e.
BMW iPerformance is the new model designation for all the brand's plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). For the 2017 530e, it is a combination of the I brand and the BMW brand.
Starting with the exterior, the new 5 series iPerformance model has subtle changes such as the blue-colored kidney grill along with an iPerformance badge, and a second cap to recharge the battery pack.
Under the hood, it is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine rated at 184 PS along with an electric motor that produces 96 PS for a total output of 255 PS and 420 Nm of torque. The plug-in hybrid is mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission that allows the 530e to reach 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds, making it 0.1s slower compared than the more lightweight 330e.
When both the combustion engine and electric motor work together, the 530e will be able to reach a top speed of 235 km/h. In all-electric mode, it has a top speed of 140 km/h.
The 2017 BMW 530e aims to provide a range of up to 45 kilometers when running on electric power alone and average about 50 km/l on hybrid mode, along with CO2 emissions of only 46 g/km. The 530e also makes use of a larger 9.2 kWH pack compared to the 330e, to match the vehicle's extra bulk.
In addition, the new 530e is also compatible with the My BMW Remote App for Android and iOS devices which enables the driver to remotely check the battery charge level, remaining range, and schedule charging.
The 2017 BMW 530E will be available in the market as early as March 2017. Its pricing, on the other hand, will be announced closer to its official launch.
