To this day, despite the excise tax, we still see a lot of BMWs plying our roads. Old models and new, from the 3 Series, to the relatively newer 1s and 2s, to the X’es, the German brand is not showing signs of slowing down. But let’s do that and look at their venerated luxury sedan, which is the 5 Series. It has been 35 years since the first 5 was produced, and now BWM saw fit to pay tribute to its mark of maximum performance and exclusive style.

Limited to only 350 units, they have named it the Edition 35 M5. Over six generations, this sedan has remained faithful to its character and pedigree. The Edition 35 is no different, as it will be based on the M5 Competition. Powered by a V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo Technology, this beast brings a maximum of 625 PS and 750 Nm of torque. Add to that the distinctly configured suspension, the all-wheel M xDrive system, and the rear Active M differential, that translates to a 0 - 100 km/h sprint of only 3.3 seconds.

One look at its exterior and you know that this is quite a special M5. Finished in Frozen Dark Grey metallic, a special pigmentation creates a silk matte surface impression. Complementing it is a set of 20-inch M light alloy wheels finished in Graphite Grey; these wheels are created exclusively for the Edition 35. Finishing touches include the standard M compound brakes finished in high-gloss black. For the discerning owners, there is also an option to get their 35 with the M carbon ceramic brakes, fitted with gold calipers, instead.

The inside gets the special, limited edition treatment too. To be expected are the M multifunction seats. The BMW Individual Merino full leather trim is also applied in black with beige contrast seams. As a first, exclusive flair comes by way of trim pieces finished in aluminum carbon structure, anodized in gold, are found in the instrument panel, door trim, and sections of the center console. To further up the exclusivity bar, the “M5 Edition 35 Jahre” can be seen inscribed on the door sill finishers, and “M5 Edition 35 Jahre X/150” on the center console to show that you are the proud owner of the nth Edition 35 in 350.

Truly, this is one BMW line that has withstood the test of time (and dare we say it, taxes). As of writing, there is no official word as to local dealerships bringing the Edition 35 to the Philippines. For the true BMW connoisseurs, though, they know nothing is impossible. Best to head to your nearest dealership, then, if you want to get one of the M5 Edition 35’s limited-to-350 units.
