BMW AG has just made another reveal, as the company has taken the wraps off of the new 4 Series Gran Coupe.
The new 4 Series Gran Coupe combines the sleek look and sporty character of the 4 Series Coupe. This model has the same length, width, wheelbase, and track. Compared to the 3 Series Sedan, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is 4.4 inches longer and slopes gently to the rear part of the vehicle. The interior of the said model is half an inch higher which gives more headroom.
"Taking its cue from a large BMW coupe, the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe combines a dynamic and sleek silhouette with additional functionality and more spaciousness in the rear passenger compartment," said Won Kyu Kang, Exterior Designer responsible for the BMW 4 Series.
The doors of the Gran Coupe are frameless which have the similar characteristic design features of BMW midsize coupes. BMW says the 4 series Gran Coupe is an expression of dynamics and refined elegance. It has a length of 4,638 mm, a width of 1,825mm and a wheelbase of 2,810mm. The track dimensions of the vehicle are 1,545mm front and 1,594mm rear.
Classic BMW design such as the iconic kidney grille and dual round headlight is incorporated in the 4 series Gran Coupe. The left and right apron corners serves as the vertical air channels for the Air Curtains that generates air around the front wheels that enhances aerodynamic efficiency. The rear of the car features a horizontal line that contributes to BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe’s athletic elegance.
The interior of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe presents a combination of sporty look and luxury. It is also equipped with an iDrive monitor. The backseat can be folded in 40:20:40 configurations to create more luggage space. The Smart Opener function of Comfort Access, a feature included in the Premium Package, automatically opens the trunk with a gesture control. It automatically opens when it detects a foot movement underneath the rear bumper when carrying groceries.
The BMW 4 Series Gran Copue is powered with a choice of various engines. The six-cylinder 435i is equipped with a 3.0L direct-injection TwinScroll turbocharged petrol engine with VALVETRONIC capable of producing 310ps. The 428i is powered by a 2.0L engine with Double-VANOS camshaft control capable of 249ps. The BMW 420d has a four-cylinder diesel engine that is capable of producing 187ps with up to 380 Newton-meters of torque. All of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe features a six-speed manual transmission and it is available with the optional eight-speed automatic or eight-speed Sport automatic transmissions.
