BMW M2 CS leaked ahead of official debut
If you have been following BMW for the last couple of years, then you've probably noticed just how busy the folks from Bavaria have been. Even the M division is working overtime to roll out new models. Just a few weeks from its official debut however, the lighter, more powerful M2 CS has leaked online and has been making rounds on the internet.
So what makes the M2 CS a cut above the standard M2? It all starts under the hood. Instead of an uprated 3.0-liter straight-six from the BMW 340i and 540i, the M2 CS gets a full-fledged M engine. Powering the the M2 is a detuned version of the twin-turbocharged inline-six from its bigger brother, the M4. Whereas the M4 makes 425 PS, the M2 CS produces 410 PS which is 15 less than its larger stablemate but a whopping 40 more over than standard M2. Torque gets a significant bump too from 465 Nm to 550 Nm.
With that, the leaked brochure stated a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds with a dual-clutch transmission. When it comes to acceleration times, it comes close to the M3 and M4. It is yet to be confirmed if the more powerful M2 will still be available with a six-speed manual. Top speed is likely to be more than the standard M2 as well.
There are subtle exterior changes to separate the M2 CS from its lesser-powered counterpart. For starters, the kidney grill is all black and appears to be larger for better engine cooling. Speaking of cooling, the corner air intakes in the remolded front bumper have been tweaked and feature a unique pattern. Also, the front apron is lower to the ground. The valence of the rear bumper has also been given a minor tweak. Capping off the changes to the exterior are black mirror caps and 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels from the M4 Competition package.
Inside, it's mostly carried over from the regular M2 but it does gain some M4 goodies. The new seats have been lifted from its big brother, as well as some cabin trimmings. Unique to the M2 CS is the configurable 'M' models which is normally reserved for the other offerings of the brand. That means drivers can save their preferred drive settings and use them with a push of a button.
More information will be known when the car officially breaks cover during the 2018 Beijing Motor Show.
