BMW's smallest crossover just received a new look for the 2020 model year. Shortly following the reveal of the all-new 1 Series Hatch, BMW is not resting on its laurels as the Bavarian automaker officially revealed the refreshed X1.
While it may still look the same as its predecessor, the 2020 refresh gets a bolder-looking front end. The signature kidney grill gets a redesign while the headlights feature a similar look to the all-new 1 Series Hatch. The front bumper, on the other hand, gets some mild tweaks courtesy of reshaped corner air intakes.
Changes around the back, however, are a bit more subtle and restrained since the taillights appear to be the only ones that get some noticeable revisions. Finally, a new set of stylish alloy wheels round up the updates on BMW's smallest crossover. Fitted as standard are the 18-inch Y-spoke wheels while new 19-inch double-spoke wheels are available as an option from M.
If you thought the changes on the outside were hard to find, wait until you see the inside. That's right, despite getting some work done on its exterior, the interior of the 2020 X1 relatively remains the same. However, high-quality materials such as fine Dakota leather, metal-finished accents, as well as piano black trimmings continue to give the X1 a cozy and luxurious look & feel.
So what did exactly BMW change on the X1's interior? For starters, it now comes with a new gear selector, as well as contrast stitching on the instrument panel and floor mats. And depending on the color of the leather finish, the lower dashboard and door handle surfaces now come with the same color palette. For the technophiles, a new optional 8.8-inch (6.5-inch standard) touchscreen infotainment system provides the necessary connectivity features and conveniences like navigation, voice control, BMW ConnectedDrive and BMW iDrive Controller.
An array of turbocharged gasoline and diesel-powered engines are available for the 2020 X1. The gasoline range can produce 134 PS to 231 PS while the diesel range can generate 114 PS to 228 PS. A choice of either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions can be saddled on the X1.
Available amenities on the 2020 BMW X1 include: active cruise control, power front seats, active driving assist features (lane-departure warning, frontal collision warning, automatic high beams, pedestrian warning), Apple CarPlay, Harman Kardon sound system, park assist, wireless phone charging, power tailgate, and a reverse camera.
