Brabus dials up the power and styling in all-new 2019 Mercedes G 500

It was only a matter of time before the crazy tuners from Brabus would get their hands on the all-new G-Class. After just a few months of its global reveal, Brabus have finally revealed a souped-up version of the G500. Packed with more power and styling upgrades, the German tuning house took what they knew about the G-Class and made it even better.

In true Brabus fashion, the 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 powerplant has been given an extra dose of horsepower and torque. Thanks to a newly-developed performance kit, the eight-cylinder motor now produces an impressive 500 PS at 5600 rpm and a gut-pulling 710 Nm of torque at 2250 – 4250 rpm. Power is then sent to a nine-speed automatic transmission with aluminum paddle shifters courtesy of Brabus.

Compared to the standard V8, the upgraded engine now generates 78 PS and 100 Nm more than factory stock. This equates to a 0 – 100 km/h sprint of 5.7 seconds and an electronically limited top-speed of 210 km/h. Other powertrain upgrades introduced in the Brabus G 500 include an optional stainless steel exhaust system which comes with electronically controlled flaps. Not only does it deliver a more optimal sounding exhaust and performance, it even has a 'Coming Home' mode which makes the exhaust sound more quiet.

Besides upgrading the V8, Brabus was also busy tweaking the exterior and interior of the G 500. The SUV gets a more sinister look thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber trim accents. It even gets a more stylish front grill, a lightweight carbon fiber hood scoop, auxiliary LED lights on the roof and a cool rear wing.

But perhaps the most eye-catching feature on the Brabus G 500 are the massive alloy wheels. Available from 20 – 23 inch sizes, the wheels are made using a high-tech forging technique that Brabus claimed makes the wheels lightweight and rigid. The most exclusive option is the 'Platinum Edition' wheels which measure 11J x 23. They can then be wrapped in Continental, Pirelli or Yokohama 305/35/R23 series tires.

Inside, a wide selection of trim, upholstery and other exclusive interior options can be specified for the all-new G500. Features such as aluminum pedals, scuff plates with illuminated Brabus logo, fine quality leather and Alcantara, and wood / carbon fiber trim accents can be installed on the Brabus G 500.
