Bugatti thrilled fans and sports car enthusiasts at The Quail with the unveiling of their latest creation – the Divo. A super sportscar described by Bugatti president Stephan Winkelmann as “a car with significantly higher performance in terms of lateral acceleration, agility and cornering and made for corners.”
Drawing from their coachbuilding heritage, Bugatti designers and engineers have transformed the Chiron into a lighter, more agile and better handling Divo. Significant work on the aerodynamics, chassis, suspension and a 35kg weight loss program was in order to achieve their goal.
A lot of work has been made to the exterior on the Divo, with the front end receiving a major revision. While the traditional Bugatti grill shape remains, but every aspect that improves its aerodynamic and cooling properties.
The rear is highlighted by its new 3D rear lights (literally). Integrated to the rear grill, the lights were produced by applying a 3D printing process for the special lightweight fins in different sizes to produce a fading effect when lit up. There are a total of 44 of these fins which produce a striking appearance giving it an 'unmistakable' look even from the back.
The car is painted in a matt finish “Titanium Liquid Silver”, a shade exclusive to the Divo. Carbon-fiber aero parts meanwhile come in a special petroleum blue tinted “Divo Carbon”, while accents are finished in “Divo Racing Blue”, a bright turquoise blue which underlines the three-dimensional character of the car.
The new aerodynamic package consists of a large front spoiler, sculpted roof to produce a NACA air duct and a 1.83-meter wide active rear spoiler that also functions as an air brake. An efficient rear diffuser also helps hold the Divo on the road. Lateral acceleration is logged at 1.6 g, downforce has increased by 60 kg over the Chiron, and it logged a 8 seconds faster lap time on the Nardò circuit in Southern Italy. As the goal is to make a better handling car that can easily take on corners, top speed is limited to 380 km/h.
Divo Racing Blue continues inside with the Alcantara surfaces contrasting the grey and titanium silver tones. While the essential orientation from the Chiron is retained, the Divo gets a more sporty character.
“The Divo is a further project intended to thrill people and the world,” Winkelmann adds. “Our fans are very important to us.”
Bugatti has decided to retain the 1,500 PS 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 powerplant of the Chiron, which also produces a massive 1,600 Nm of torque.
The Bugatti Divo is limited to 40 vehicles with all examples sold for €5 million (Php 310,195,857).
“The feedback from our customers was overwhelming,” the Bugatti president reports. “We showed the Divo to a small group of selected Chiron customers. All 40 cars were sold immediately – this was fantastic confirmation for the Bugatti team which had put so much dedication and passion into the project.”
