BYD Philippines will officially begin selling the e6 electric crossover

Thinking of getting an electric vehicle (EV) soon? You're in luck as BYD Philippines will start selling a fully electric model in the near future. Called the e6, it's an EV crossover that has a range of over 300 km and a maximum torque of 450 Nm.

BYD Philippines, under Solar Transport and Automotive Resources Corporation (STAR), has been mulling the idea of offering an EV for a while now, given that they are a leader in electric and hybrid vehicle technology in China. The new tax reform law will levy zero excise taxes on full electric vehicles, and thus will bring down the e6's price to more reasonable levels.

The e6 has a sleek exterior design with has LED daytime running lights at the front, a uniquely designed front grill resembling a circuit board, stylish 17-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels and LED taillights and foglights. In terms of size, the e6 measures 4560mm long, 1822mm wide, 1645mm tall and has a 2830mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is rated at 150mm while curb weight is 2380 kg.

The driving force of the e6 is an electric brushless motor powered by a 61.4 kWh iron-phospate battery pack. It produces 120 PS and a massive 450 Nm of torque. It has a top speed of 140 km/h and has a maximum cruising range of 300 km.

BYD has yet to state the official price of the e6, but their representative had stated that there was serious interest in their electric vehicles in our market. Given the lack of EV infrastructure, BYD will be consulting with customers regarding their solutions for in-home charging stations.

BYD Philippines handed us the keys to the BYD e6 a few years ago for a test drive around the metropolis.
