Don't be surprised if traffic gets a little bit more congested from this month onwards as the trend of automotive sales continues to rise and reach unprecedented levels.
Vehicle sales rose by a total of 6,438 units in April 2016 compared to the same month last year, which represents a 30.3% increase.
This was confirmed by the report of both the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA), which also showed a 'double-to triple-digit sales expansion across all segments.'
"April sales was beyond expectation compared to sales trend based on seasonality. Given that we offer attractive promotions and the arrival of new models, we project sustained growth the whole second quarter," said CAMPI president Rommel Gutierrez.
Commercial vehicle sales rose by 37.5-percent for a total of 17,777 vehicles compared to April 2015.
Sales of light commercial vehicles in April 2016 grew by 41.4-percent to 12,233 units from 8,653 units compared to the same month last year.
Passenger cars had the smallest increase at 19.1-percent while Asian utility vehicles rose by 27.6-percent.
Light truck sales rose by 39.9-percent while trucks and buses categories IV and V went up by 13.1-percent and 147.5-percent, respectively.
Last month's vehicle sales boosted overall first quarter sales, giving it an increase of 23.8-percent compared to the first quarter of last year.
