Aside from getting cited and your vehicle towed to the impound for illegally parking along city streets of Metro Manila, you may soon find yourself paying a very hefty fine.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is working with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to enforce an upcoming Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) imposing a fine of Php 6,500 for illegally parking your vehicle along designated lanes for fire trucks and ambulances in Metro Manila.

This move aims to speed up the mobility of these emergency vehicles in order to save lives, including private and public property. Both the MMDA and BFP are in the midst of firming up the list of streets that will be designated as fire lanes.

Scout Tobias and Scout Bayoran in Quezon City are two identified fire lanes as of the moment. Roads not designated as Mabuhay Lanes may apply for nomination as a fire lane.

Tow trucks will also be deployed to clear road hazards along streets leading to residential communities where emergencies may occur.

“Motorists must learn to make way for fire trucks passing through the fire lanes,” MMDA General Manager Thomas Orbos.
