The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) have just received what could be the most modern and high-tech ambulance in the country to date.
Recently, the Lopez Group of Companies donated the latest Stage 3 ambulance to the two government agencies as part of the company's PhP 100 million funding support. The ambulance is based on the new Ford Transit van and is equipped with the latest in medical technologies.
PPA General Jay Santiago presented the donated ambulance to DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade last May 29, 2020. Also present during the ceremony was DOTr Assistant Secretary for Procurement and Project Implementation Giovanni Lopez.
The ambulance itself comes equipped with a medical wall cabinet that is filled with medical devices such as a first aid kit, minor surgical kit, and a nebulizer kit that can treat patients. It also has automated external defibrillator, collapsible and scoop-type stretchers, and other medical consumables and supplies. The ambulance also benefits from a stainless steel ramp to help emergency responders load the gurney into the vehicle
With the new ambulance now part of the DOTr and PPA's emergency fleet of vehicles, these will complement the operations of the COVID-19 quarantine facilities in Pier 15 at the Manila South Harbor.
These quarantine facilities (composed of two quarantine vessels and a quarantine terminal) were established by the DOTr and its attached agencies as part of the government’s response efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.
With the country's number of confirmed cases now at over 18,000, this new ambulance will surely help the government transport and treat patients with ease.
