When Chery officially made its Philippine comeback late last November, they brought with them a bevy of crossovers to entice car buyers. With high-riding vehicles all the rage today, we weren't entirely surprised by Chery Auto Philippines' decision to bring in just only crossovers and SUVs.
Now, the company has decided to bring in something different. While this may look like an ordinary sedan, this striking four-door is actually Chery's first-ever all-electric vehicle in the country. This is the Chery Arrizo 5e, a zero-emissions compact sedan that combines sleek looks, a spacious and feature-packed interior, and an electric powertrain that is good for 401 km on a single charge.
The Arrizo 5e features a sleek and smooth exterior design that is complemented by sweeping headlights, a sporty front bumper, neat touches of chrome and black accents, stylish alloy wheels, and wraparound taillights. Combined with the distinct shade of red, and the EV is quite the looker.
The interior features a two-tone finish which gives the sedan a more sophisticated look. It is then complemented by leather upholstery Meanwhile, the center dashboard is dominated by two massive screens. First is the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment which provides in-car entertainment. The other screen measures 8-inches and serves as the touch panel for the automatic climate control system.
Driving this EV is an electric motor that is powered by a 53.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It puts out approximately 120 kW (or 160 PS), along with a generous 250 Nm of torque. With it, the sedan can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 152 km/h. Under ideal conditions, with an average speed of 60 km/h, Chery claims it can cover 500 km on a single charge. But in more realistic driving conditions, Chery states that the Arrizo 5e can travel for over 400 km in one single charge.
To keep the battery recharged while on the move, the Arrizo 5e benefits from a regenerative braking system that captures kinetic energy during braking/deceleration and stores it in the battery. As for recharging the battery via a charging port, Chery claims the sedan can be recharged from 30% to 80% in under 30 minutes in fast charging mode. On slow charging mode, the battery can be fully charged in 7 to 9 hours.
As far as safety features are concerned, the electric sedan has plenty. It has six airbags, electronic stability, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, hill-hold control (aka hill-start assist), reverse camera with 360-degree around-view monitor, tire pressure monitoring system, and a battery temperature intelligent control for the lithium-ion batteries.
Just how much will the Arrizo 5e cost? Chery has yet to reveal its exact price but the company did say that they expect it to be priced in the PhP 1.9 million range. Not exactly super affordable like their other models, but Chery said that they don't expect it to be a sales mover as it will only be available as an indent order.
But should Chery be able to sway buyers in getting an EV, the Arrizo 5e may attract those that wish for something practical, economical and high-tech. And with a claimed 400 km range of travel, this particular sedan can go places before needing a full recharge.
