The midsize pickup and pickup-platform vehicle (PPV) wars is set to take off once again after Chevrolet Philippines officially launched the revamped Colorado and Trailblazer in Cebu last week. Billed as 2017 model years, both models receive a heavily revised exterior, better cabin amenities and improved ride quality.
Starting things off with the exterior, both the 2017 Trailblazer and Colorado get a more chiseled front end. The fresh look comes courtesy of the brand's global DNA design which was first applied on the USDM Colorado. The two vehicles also have styling cues from their respective concept versions; the Colorado Xtreme and the Trailblazer Premier.
The front fascia now bears reshaped headlights that now come with daytime running lights (DRLs). The signature dual-port grill also gets slight tweaks, as well as the foglights. In addition, Chevrolet also claimed it gets a wider hood and revised stepboards. Rounding it all up are the large 18-inch alloy wheels and the updated taillights.
Inside, the two utility vehicles get the same cabin design from the US-spec Colorado. Immediately apparent is the redesigned center console which houses the latest generation MyLink infotainment system. With it, both models now support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a first in its class added Chevrolet. Below that, both the Trailblazer and Colorado get a new automatic climate control system, along with reshaped aircon vents.
In terms of trim, Chevrolet claimed it now has soft-touch plastic materials which improves cabin quality and leather-clad seats (standard on high-end variants). The instrument panel, on the other hand, gets additional tweaks, along with a new multi-information display.
Beside the new gizmos and updated interior trim, Chevrolet also said that the both vehicles now have better NVH deadening properties. It gets new transmission and engine mounts, new suspension components (springs, stabilizers, shock absorbers) and seals.
Under the hood, high-end variants of the Trailblazer and Colorado are still powered by the class-leading 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel. It produces 200 PS and 500 Nm of torque. Available transmissions include a 6-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual. Lesser variants, on the other hand, are driven by the 2.5-liter turbo-diesel which puts out 160 PS and 380 Nm of torque.
Other safety features and driver-aids available in the 2017 Trailblazer and Colorado include: four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, stability control, new electronic power-steering system, tire pressure monitoring system, lane departure warning, forward collision alert and front / rear parking assist as such.
