Japan has the Nissan GT-R. Germany has the Porsche 911. The USA has the Chevrolet Corvette. The first two have been in showrooms for quite some time now. The American sports car meanwhile has never been officially offered locally. That is, until now.
At the opening of Chevrolet Motorama 2018, The Covenant Car Company, Inc. brought in the iconic sports car, and it's not just for show either. They announced that the Corvette, for the first time in its 65-year history, will officially be sold in the Philippines. The best part is, you can walk in a Chevy dealership and reserve a unit. Yes, Chevrolet Philippines is serious about the Corvette.
The Chevrolet Corvette is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 and it packs 455 PS and 624 Nm of torque. Philippine-bound Corvettes come with an eight-speed automatic transmission. With that powertrain combination, the Corvette C7 can do the 0 to 100 km/h sprint under four seconds, on to a top speed over 300 km/h.
It rides on 19-inch alloys at the front, and a wide set of 20-inch wheels at the back. The local-spec Corvette also has Magnetic Ride Control which can either firm up the suspension for track use, or soften them when out on the open road. It also has a performance data recorder, which is like an on-board camera that video records your drive and shows your speed, RPM, and the track map.
For the Philippines, there's only one model trim for the Corvette and it starts at Php 8,546,888.
