American automaker Chevrolet recently displayed the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban Z71 editions at the Texas State Fair. Originally released in 1988, the Z71 has always been synonymous with off-road capability according to the automaker and Chevrolet claims that the new model will still be able to deliver 4x4 prowess while also providing additional creature comforts. The Z71 package will be available for the LT models with 4WD and production of the car will begin at the start of October.
Both SUVs are equipped with a front skid plate, a distinctive grille, running boards, fog lamps, Z71 badging, fog lamps, front tow hook and 18-inch wheels wrapped in off-road tires. When coupled with the Luxury Package for the LT model, a hands-free tailgate feature is added that enables a customer to open and close the tailgate by waving their foot under the rear section for the sensor to detect.
Inside, Z71 badging decorates the interior of the car and if you're in the LT or LTZ model, surf away with 4G LTE connectivity using the vehicle's built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. The mobile data connection is a free 3GB/ 3 month data trial, after which the customer can buy sign-up for personal subscription. An optional feature is a wireless phone charging mat that is a part of the Luxury Package for the LT. A magnetic inductive charging system allows customers to place their mobile phone on a mat and let it charge without the use of cables or wires.
Chevrolet did not specify any powertrain specification but the undercarriage of both cars are now equipped with an updated front independent coil-over-shock suspension and a five-link rear coil-over design at the rear. In achieving a more planted stance, shear-style body mounts were used that lessens body shake while adding structural stiffness and damping performance. Additional features included in the new cars will be a four-wheel disc brake system with disc rotors from Duralife, an automatic locking rear differential, a magnetic ride control that adjusts ride comfort every 10-15 milliseconds and a front park assist.
The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban Z71 models will go on sale in the U.S. this year.
