Leaders of the House of Representatives will make good use of the time during the session break in order to inspect roads and highways in the northern part of Metro Manila and Luzon.

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez will lead select members of Congress and personnel from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) on a ‘North Luzon Inspection Trip’ from June 1 to 6, 2017.

The expedition will cover the provinces of La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Ifugao, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Baguio City, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan and Pampanga and will see to it that ‘the country’s roads and highways, vital infrastructures, and installations to ensure the maximum benefit, comfort and safety of the Filipino people.’

Road network connectivity, road signs, tourism infrastructures and the construction of government installations for better public service will also be high on the list of the team.

In light of recent accidents on provincial roads, lawmakers will also check accessibility and width of roads, and other safety measures that can be put in place to reduce the number of vehicular mishaps.

Seeing the current condition of roads in northern Luzon will also allow lawmakers to determine the budget that needs to be allotted for the respective provinces in 2018.

91 district and party-list lawmakers have already expressed their desire to join the expedition.
