Congressmen ordered to return all protocol 8 plates

House Speaker orders recall of all 8 plates issued in past Congress

The House of Representatives are closing and ‘cleansing’ its ranks as House Speaker Pantaleon ‘Bebot’ Alvarez yesterday issued a memorandum addressed to all members of the House.

After receiving reports of vehicles with the Number 8 Protocol Plate seen parked in ‘indecent places’ and figuring in a number of ‘crime-related vehicles’, Alvarez ordered its immediate recall.

“Kindly turn in these car plates to the Office of the Secretary General for proper acknowledgement,’ the memorandum read.

Recently, a Jaguar, Ford Expedition, Hyundai Starex and Toyota Avanza with Protocol Plate No. 8, were found by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) during a raid of a cybersex den in Pasay City last August 16.

The NBI is now working with the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) in order to determine if these protocol plates were indeed legitimately issued to vehicles owned by members of the House of Congress.

To recall, Protocol Plates are issued to the President, Vice-President, Cabinet members, senators, congressmen various other high-level employees of the government.

These plates are non-transferable and does not exempt bearer from local traffic rules and regulations including number-coding.
