It was back in February 2019 when the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), along with the NLEX Corporation, officially opened the NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 to the public. With it, it has cut travel time to and from MacArthur Highway, Valenzuela City, C3 Road, and Caloocan City.
Now, the DPWH recently announced that they will be opening the Dagat-Dagatan Ramp of the NLEX Harbor Link come January 2020. During a progress inspection by DPWH Secretary Mark Villar of the 2.6 km NLEX Harbor Link R-10 and the 8 km NLEX Connector elevated expressways, the 41-year old politician / businessman stated that they are exerting all efforts to fully open the new off-ramp next year.
“We are committed to fully opening this January the new off-ramp that will bring motorists directly from NLEX to Dagat-Dagatan in Malabon City. 24/7 construction will be undertaken to complete the 2.6-kilometer section which stretches west from the new Caloocan Interchange to Radial Road 10,” said Villar.
Apart from the planned opening of the Dagat-Dagatan off ramp in January next year, Villar also annnounced that the construction of the NLEX-SLEX Connector is now in full blast. Foundation works on the first 5 km section of the NLEX Connector Expressway have already started at the new Caloocan Interchange. Soon, this will extend all the way to the future Sampaloc Interchange near Espana Boulevard in Manila.
A total of 223 piers will be constructed to support the all-weather, all-vehicle NLEX Connector which will connect with the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Once completed, travel time between NLEX and SLEX will be cut from two hours, to approximately 20 minutes. Moreover, it will have two interchanges and four toll plazas that will run above the Philippine National Railway lines.
With the holidays fast approaching, we can only hope that more roads will be opened soon as Metro Manila traffic continues to worsen amidst the Christmas rush. Hopefully by the start of the new decade, these new infrastructure projects will improve traffic conditions in the metro.
