Lexus Manila is on a roll. Not only will they be launching the entry-level UX crossover, they will soon be bringing in the all-new ES sedan as well. That brings a total of two completely new cars in the local Lexus lineup.
The company has launched a teaser sight showing off the upcoming sedan. For now, there isn't a whole lot of information being shared by Lexus Manila and it is yet to be known if we will be getting the F-Sport model or will stick to the traditional, luxury-oriented variant. Judging from the photos, it appears to be leaning towards the latter.
There is also no information for the engine that will power the Philippine-spec models. Globally, there are two powertrain options to choose from in the 2019 Lexus ES. There's the long-running 3.5-liter V6, although it now packs direct injection and improved thermal efficiency, as Lexus claims. That engine makes 300 PS and 355 Nm of torque and shifts via a new 8-speed direct shift automatic transmission.
Another possibility is the introduction of the ES 300h, which is the hybrid model. That one uses a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine mated to a revised hybrid drive system. Total output is a claimed 205 PS and fuel economy at 17 kilometers per liter in mixed driving conditions. Given that hybrids now have less tariffs in the country, it might be a possibility for Lexus to consider this variant.
For this generation of ES, Lexus has given the E-segment sedan some styling cues from their flagship four-door, the LS. The all-new Lexus ES features the latest interpretation of their L-Finesse design philosophy with a bolder, wider spindle grill proudly displayed at the front. Instead of vertical slats for its grill, the all-new ES features what's called a 'waterfall' effect design.
The all-new ES breaks away from tradition from the models of the past and sees a roofline that emphasizes its lower stance. As for the rear, it's defined by sharply chiseled lines throughout the rear fascia. Pricing on the other hand will be announced soon.
