The 2016 Toyota Innova was launched in India with a "Crysta" badge at the Auto Expo 2016. Significantly different from the earlier debuted Kijang Innova in Indonesia November of last year is a 2.8-liter GD series turbo diesel engine. This will be the first time the Innova is getting a top-range engine as the previous generation Innova was only available with the base 2.5-liter turbo diesel engine.
Size-wise, the new Innova is longer, wider and taller than its predecessor. It measures 4735 mm long, 1830 mm wide, and 1795 mm tall. This represents an increase of 150 mm in length 70 mm in width and 35 mm in height. Like its IMV counterparts, it retains the same wheelbase of 2750 mm. Toyota also claims to have improved the suspension for the new-generation Innova.
Although no official engine specs were revealed, power figures for the 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV will most likely be similar to the engine found in the 2016 Toyota Fortuner and 2015 Toyota Hilux rated at 177 PS and 370 Nm. However, the 2016 Toyota Innova launched in Indonesia comes with a 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV which is rated at 139 PS with 360 Nm of torque; detuned with 11 PS less power and 40 Nm less torque compared to the Fortuner and Hilux versions (150 PS, 400 Nm). It will be paired with a new six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2.4-liter turbo diesel as well as the 2.0-liter 1TR-FE gas engine versions are expected to follow suit.
For India, the 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta will come with a "Z" grade which is likely targeted for a higher than usual market segment. Toyota equipped the launch model with 17-inch wheels, smart key with push-button engine start/stop, touchscreen infotainment with navigation, cruise control, power-adjust driver’ seat, automatic climate control with rear cooler and electronic tailgate.
