Mercedes-Benz is not saying goodye to diesel power anytime soon. In fact, the automaker recently released two new powertrain options for the all-new GLE.
First revealed in back in September 2018, the 2019 GLE was first launched with a turbocharged mild-hybrid inline-six (dubbed GLE 450) that pushes out 362 PS and 500 Nm of torque. Now, Mercedes-Benz has officially released the turbo-diesel variants for the midsize luxury crossover, the GLE 350 d and the GLE 400 d.
Both models are powered by a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-six. The 350 d puts out 272 PS along with an impressive 600 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the more powerful 400 d generates 330 PS and a whopping 700 Nm of torque. Like the gas-powered model, both the 350 d and 400 d come with a nine-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
Off the line, the 350 d can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 230 km/h. The 400 d, on the other hand, can do it quicker at 5.8 seconds before reaching a top speed of 240 km/h. In addition, Mercedes-Benz claims that both diesel-powered models are capable of averaging up to 17.0 km/l in mixed driving conditions.
Like the top-of-the-line GLE 450, a wide array of creature comforts and high-tech amenities are available in the GLE 350 d and 400 d. For starters, it comes standard with the brand's latest infotainment system dubbed MBUX that comes with intelligent voice control. There's also four-zone automatic climate control, LED headlights with active high beam assist, 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, blind spot assist, electrically-adjustable second row seats, and third-row seating.
Apart from those features, Mercedes-Benz is also offering various packages that add more to the GLE's already long list of equipment. These include Tech Package which comes with better navigation and smartphone integration, and Towing Package that adds park assist for trailers and trailer couping with electronic stability control. Other packages available for the GLE are the Premium Plus which adds a Burmester audio system panoramic glass roof, keyless-go access and in-car fragrances / scents ; and the Off-road Package which bestows the GLE with more off-road driving modes, hill-descent control, and more underbody protection.
