The longtime CEO of Daimler AG will continue to lead the company after the Supervisory Board extended his contract until December 31, 2019. He will remain Chairman of The Board of Management at Daimler AG as well as Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars until the contract expires.

With the contract extension we are securing the continuity at the top needed for sustainable success,” said Manfred Bischoff, Chairman of the Supervisory Board
Zetsche's career with the company first began in 1976 where he worked in the research department. Then in 1981, he became Assistant Development Manager at the Vehicle Business unit. It was only in 1998 where he became a member of the Board of Management. He also served as President/CEO of Chrysler Group from 2000 until 2005.
Then in 2006, he was named Chairman of then Daimler-Chrysler, succeeding Jurgen Schrempp. He was instrumental in demerging Daimler and Chrysler in 2007, resulting in the current Daimler AG.
