Last week, we got our first look at the new 2021 MG5 set to be launched at the 2020 Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition (GIAE) this November. The smallest sedan in MG’s lineup underwent a massive makeover and looks nothing like it did before. Interestingly, it’s new bold look does appear to be influenced by Italian luxury marque Maserati.

It seems, however, that the new face won’t just be found on the MG5. The automaker also released teaser photos of a new SUV in China sporting a similar-looking front end. There are no details about the mystery SUV just yet. As a result, we’re not entirely sure whether this an updated variant of one of MG’s crossovers or a new model altogether.

Based on what we do know, the mystery SUV sports will feature a similar front fascia to the new MG5. So yes, it has the same large vertical grille flanked by a pair of slim headlights. Unlike the projector headlights on the 2021 MG5, this SUV appears to have full-LED units with multiple elements in the housing. Meanwhile, the rear teaser photo offers little to help distinguish the model. From what we can see, the SUV will have a unique set of LED taillights.

Will all future MG models look like this? image

The online rumor mill thinks this could be the facelifted MG HS crossover, and we don't think the idea is too far-fetched. Do remember that the HS is one of the few remaining models in MG’s current lineup that has yet to be updated. Considering it originally debuted in 2018, launching an updated model for the 2021 model year may sound right.

Whatever the case, it seems the large grille with slim headlights will be the trend with MG’s new design language for upcoming models. As such, expect to see similar-looking vehicles from the automaker in the future

Do you like MG’s new design or should they stick to the current styling cues they have now? Let us know.
