One hundred years ago, brothers John and Horace Dodge developed America’s first mass-produced all-steel-bodied cars in 1914, setting a record for the most first-model-year automobiles ever produced at 45,033 cars. The Dodge brand has since produced successful vehicles like the Charger, Challenger, Durango and Grand Caravan.
To celebrate the brand's 100 year of performance and heritage, it will be offering a limited edition (with no exact numbers) release of two of its iconic nameplates. Dodge will be releasing 100th Anniversary Editions of the Charger and Challenger, which will hit dealerships by first quarter of 2014.
“The Dodge Charger and Challenger are the perfect foundation to celebrate 100 years of Dodge style and performance,” said Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO - Dodge Brand.
Both Charger and Challenger Anniversary Editions will be offered with either a Pentastar V6 engine or the R/T with 5.7-liter HEMI V8 mounted to a ZF 8-speed automatic. An exclusive new ‘High Octane Red’ pearl paintjob option, new 20-inch wheels, commemorative ‘Dodge est. 1914’ badging, unique key fob, special owner’s kit, commemorative book, red ‘100’ numeral on the speedometer, red or black leather upholstery with cloud overprint, flat bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters, and embroidered floor mats add visual effects of exclusivity.
While the styling elements for both cars will essentially be similar, the Dodge Charger will get black-face gauges, and Dr. Dre Beats audio integrated to the UConnect system; the Dodge Challenger on the other hand gets white-face gauges and Boston Acoustics audio integrated to the UConnect system. Both models get sport mode calibration and performance tuned suspension.
The 100th Anniversary Edition package will cost customers $2200 more for the Dodge Charger, and $2500 more for the Dodge Challenger. They will be based on SXT Plus and R/T Plus variants of the two models.
