Good news to motorists that frequently go to the airport via the Naia Expressway (NAIAX) from Skyway: The Php 20 toll fee being collected from motorists from Skyway to NAIAX has been waived since July 26, 2017. The move was made in order to lessen the burden on motorists that pay two separate toll fees; Php 20 for using Skyway and PhP 35 when exiting towards the NAIAX ramp.
In a recent meeting, Department of Transporation Secretary (DOTr) Arthur Tugade and San Miguel Corporation (SMC) president and COO Ramon Ang agreed to waive the said toll fee. Both the DOTr and toll operators are working on the interoperability of Skyway and NAIAX since the two toll roads are under different companies and concessionaries.
With this in mind, the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) along with SMC are working in fully integrating the collection systems for the two toll roads to pave the way for a one-stop collecting system. The DOTr has already instructed toll operators to work on the mechanics of combining Skyway and NAIAX toll fees.
“In one month, there will be a one-stop collection system in the Skyway-NAIAX section. We want our toll systems to be interoperable to achieve our ultimate goal of providing our motorists seamless travel along our expressways,” said Tugade.
On the other hand, SMC stated that they will continue to deliver better service and reduce congestion along Skyway, NAIAX and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX). They are also constructing new toll plazas in order to reduce queuing time. To date, SMC said that about 70,000 vehicles use NAIAX, meaning there are 70,000 less vehicles plying along Paranaque, Las Pinas, Manila, Makati and Pasay.
The reduced toll fee will be in effect for one month.
