The Department of Transportation has just announced that they have fully addressed the prior backlog of license cards with the older three-year validity period.

According to the DOTr's announcement they inherited the backlog from the prior administration when they assumed office in June 2016. The backlog of older 3-year licenses was up to 3-million motorists up until that point.

The previous administration, then the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), experienced many issues and problems with the acquisition and distribution of license cards, as well as license plates.

DOTr says backlog of 3 million 3-year license cards fixed

The restructured Department of Transportation began to address the issue starting December 2016 by distributing the cards.. They completed the initial backlog in February 2017, and the succeeding license cards up until June 2017.

When the current administration took office, President Duterte ordered the DOTr to issue licenses that were valid for up to five years. Many motorists were also not issued the newer 5-year license cards given the problems with the prior 3-year licenses.

The DOTr also says that the new license cards with 5-years validity will start to be released beginning August 2017.

There is no statement yet regarding the new vehicle license plates.
