Motorists that frequently ply along Katipunan Avenue will be glad to know that the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) recently finished construction of two additional lanes near the UP-Diliman campus.

The newly-completed widened road spans 672 meters and runs along the southbound lane of Katipunan Avenue from Shuster St. to C.P. Garcia Avenue. According to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, the finished project not only frees up more road space, but will also help in flood-control.

“We've constructed two (2) additional lanes along the southbound direction of Katipunan Avenue including geometric improvement works, installation of reinforced concrete pipes for flood-control, retaining wall, and restoration of perimeter fence and gates of UP Diliman,” added Villar.

Villar also mentioned that a sidewalk was integrated along the newly-built road for pedestrians to use.

The widening of Katipunan Avenue was done in part for its integration with the proposed UP-Miriam-Ateneo Viaduct Project. It aims to decongest traffic at the intersection of C.P. Garcia and Katipunan Avenue.
