Tourists and locals that plan on traveling to Negros Occidental's famous Binadlan Falls will soon be able to get there quicker and safer. Recently, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) began a road concreting project in Barangay Bi-ao in the municipality of Binalbagan. When completed, the soon-to-be-paved road will not only serve to attract tourists, but will also provide growth and better access for other rural barangays near the falls.
According to District Engineer Randolfo A. Melosantos of the DPWH Negros Occidental Second District Engineering Office (DEO), the 3.75-kilometer road improvement project has an initial allocated budget of Php 100 million under the Deapartment of Tourism (DOT) – DPWH Tourism Board Infrastructure Program.
The agency has already started work on Phase 1 of the road project leading to Binadlan Falls last July. The DPWH expects that they will be able to finish the first phase by May 2019, should the weather be favorable during construction.
For the project's Phase 2, District Engineer Melosantos stated that an additional allocation of Php 50 million will be included.
“Once paved, this local road will also promote growth for the rural communities directly benefiting residents of Barangay Bi-ao and its neighboring barangays with better access to markets, schools and healthcare,” added Melosantos.
